Cheap Summer Travel to Atlantic City

Once a year, my husband, sister, and brother-in-law and I load up the car and head to Atlantic City for a night or two. We leave the kids, the jobs, and the worries behind, and drive out Route 40 to the East Coast’s version of Sin City. Even with the gambling we do, we always manage to stay within a reasonable budget for our trips. Whether you’re headed to Atlantic City to gamble the nights away or to spend the days on the beach with your wife and kids, a cheap summer vacation in Atlantic City can be done.

Stay off the strip.

A hotel on the beach is sure to be more expensive than one with beachfront access. Consider the Sheraton Conference Center, just a short walk away. Or, if you are committed to staying in a waterfront hotel, consider a less expensive one like the Bally’s, instead of Caesar’s. Not only can you stay with utmost comfort, but you can also play a seamless poker online game as you connect to theri fast internet connection.

Not only should you consider staying in a less expensive hotel, but the best way to keep your Atlantic City vacation reasonably priced is to avoid the strip altogether. Stay out of the casinos and enjoy the beach. After all, the beach is free! If you do head into the casinos, make just one trip to the ATM machine and head in with what you are willing to lose. If you leave with more, great. If you leave empty-handed, at least you expected to lose that money anyway.

Eat at White House Subs.

The best food in Atlantic City is just a short walk from most of AC’s major sights and attractions. White House Subs has been around for over 60 years, serving the best submarine sandwiches I’ve ever had. Skip the pricey buffet at the hotel, and head right to Arctic Avenue for the best food you can get in New Jersey, and arguably, the East Coast. The food at White House Subs will fill your stomach without emptying your wallet.

Think twice before you drink.

If you choose to drink in Atlantic City, your best bet is to bring a case of beer or bottle of wine to the hotel with you. Hotel drinks can be expensive, as can a trip to one of the liquor stores that litter the main drag in AC. Drink in your room before going out, and then partake of the free drinks offered while you’re playing a hand or two of blackjack or roulette. Afraid you won’t see the cocktail waitress again for awhile? Order two beers at a time, just in case.

A cheap trip to Atlantic City can be done. Just be sure to set a budget before you go, and book hotels and gamble accordingly. Bring alcohol with you to pre-party, if that’s what you are heading to the city to do. Avoid the buffet and fill your stomach at White House Subs. A summer trip to Atlantic City can be fun and enjoyable, without emptying your wallet.
